Day 61 - My lack of 5 minute notes is due largely in part to the shift in my recent projects from working on the computers everyday making electronic material to working on our help desk hardware (3D printers, BOINC, salvaging parts from Northgate's old news room, etc.) I have also found that the 5 minute notes are more detail than is necessary to complete my weekly reflections, which focus mostly on the main points of what I did over the week. In the future, 5 minute posts are likely to be sporadic, with out any regular posting interval. The weekly reflections should remain relatively constant at 2 per month, although they may not be exactly on schedule. I am finishing up the preliminary stages of the BOINC setup, so I will probably have a tech review soon.

Day - 28 The past few days I have been mostly offline, working on hardware projects. I printed a 3D model of the golden gate bridge, and have been working in what we have so endearingly called the "Northgate Chop Shop". We are disassembling and harvesting components from old computers, specifically the RAM, CPU, and SATA cables, as well as the hard drive. We are going to use these to build a bigger system and to make an open-source computer for BOINC.
Day 23 - Today we disassembled a computer to take out the RAM and CPU. We were trying to remove the hard drive, but we didn't have enough time or the right screwdrivers to get it out. The 3D printer has about 37 hours left on the print job, and it looks like it might have messed up a bit. Hopefully it's fine.
Day 22 - I didn't get a chance to post this on Friday, because I spent almost the whole period working on setting up a massive 3D print job. It is printing 4 train axle pegs, 3 train wheels, the smokestack, and a model of the Golden Gate Bridge that I made the night before. The print job will take 108 hours in total.
Day 21 - Today we brainstormed a logo for nhs tech talks, and David's print job finished.
Day 20 - Today Mr. Tobin asked me to research feedwind, and how it could be used to put a RSS feed from an outside source on to your website. I tried it out and put a local weather feed on my website. It doesn't seem like it would be too useful unless you have an RSS feed however.
Day 19 - Today I mostly worked on my weekly reflection post. The 3D printer finished with the train body, but there was a problem with the units, (David used metric but the printer was calibrated to inches) so the train was much larger than expected. We have to set up the lye bath, so we might get Mr. Taylor (the chemistry teacher) come help.
Day -18 Today I fixed my 5-minute notes today. I got messed up on the dates because of the long weekend and skipping a day, but it is fixed now. We started working on our blogs, but I didn't really get anywhere. I prefer to do them at home, and Mr. Tobin said that they are due on Tuesdays, so we can work on them over the weekend. Later in the period Mrs. Moore came in and told us about Mail Chimp, a group email service.
Day 17 - Today we finished our challenge of converting images and PDFs to Google doc text. We used an extension for Google Chrome called Image, Translate, Documents to Text. You just upload an image, direct it to save it to your Google drive, and then press convert to text and translate.
Day 16 - Today we worked on a challenge that Mr. Tobin gave me. I worked with Alex on converting pictures and PDFs to changeable text in google docs. We were able to find picture-to-text software that works with reasonable accuracy, and we found a way to convert a PDF into a google doc. So far we haven't found anything to go from picture to google doc, but we will continue working on this challenge tomorrow.
